@jbauer this is from my personal collection. I got it from when I did the FOSSIL workshop at GSA 2016(?).

    • That is amazing. Let me pull in our planty expert @mackenzie-smith to confirm the ID! This is super excellent info and will be marked as research grade (given a GUID & sent to iDigBio). Did you want to add any other info to field notes?

Congrats to our first group of junior scholars on the debut of their museum exhibits! They all did a great job researching, illustrating, and writing these science stories about the Ice Age and the Paleozoic for all our visitors to see. These exhibits will be up for the next two weeks, so please stop by and check them out!

A special thank you to…[Read more]

‪From big to little, no fossil shall go unstudied by our junior scholars at the Alf Museum. Some are working on micro-sorting fossils from the Hell Creek Formation (65mya)! ‬ #fossil

‪It’s a big day for The Webb Schools junior scholars! They are being assigned their specimens for their museum exhibit project. Each group will have to do research about their specimen to tell a story and design a mini-exhibit that will go into the Hall of Life! ‬

Happy #FossilFriday! Our collections crew are working on cataloging some 75 million year old fossils from Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. These have been getting worked on in the prep lab as we get ready for all the new specimens our field team excavated this past summer!

Specimens collected from GSENM under permit from the US…[Read more]

Our paleontologists are back from the field! This field season marks the last trip out to #GSENM. Over the last 14 years we have uncovered material from hadrosaurs, pterosaurs, tyrannosaurs, crocs, turtles, and plenty of plants and snails. And of course #DinosaurJoe!

Of course, no Alf field season is complete without obscene amounts of Tragedy!…[Read more]

For #TyrannosaurTuesday, our preparator Jared Heuck is doing a little repair work on our T. rex skull replica, with help from some Webb students. It’s a great chance to talk about exhibit maintenance!

Gabriel-Philip Santos has contributed a new specimen to myFOSSIL!

    • Cool!!! Was it a common species (ie do many of the Californian mammoth specimens have to be relabeled) or a rare one (with only a couple specimens known)?

    • I’m also happy it’s named after me XD

#FossilFriday time! This one is from my curator, Dr. Andy Farke. It’s a little beardog! If you have been to the Alf Museum or followed our social media, you’ve seen plenty of our big beardog (Amphicyon) skeleton and trackway. Beardogs, or amphicyonids, lived throughout the northern hemisphere and into Africa during much of the Cenozoic. Big…[Read more]
