    Here is a skull of small, “stilt-legged” Equus from Gypsum Cave outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. The skull was mentioned in the original 1933 paper on the cave by Mark Harrington, but was not in the collections of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (where the remainder of the Gypsum Cave fossils are reposited) when those cabinets were surveyed in 2011-2012. A search by the collections managers at the museum turned up the skull … in the modern mammal collection! (Yes, the preservation of fossils from Gypsum Cave really is that good!)
