    That’s a crinoid columnal, which makes up the stalk of the animal. The five-fold symmetry is what makes it diagnostic. My guess is that you are collecting in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, or a state near there? @lenawright Is there anything else you can say about this that I haven’t?

    Definitely a crinoid columnal.  I t looks too big for Ordovician.  More likely Mississippian.
